Fort-to-Fort Trail Connects Past with Present

... continued

Fort Langley remained in operation until 1886, and played a vital role in Canada's history, when the declaration of the colony of British Columbia was made at the Fort in 1858.

In 1923, the Government of Canada pronounced Fort Langley a site of national historical significance, and made it a National Historic Park in 1955.

Since then, a number of buildings and the palisades have been reconstructed to illustrate how the Fort looked in its prime. The storehouse, built in the 1940s, is the only original building left on the site.
