Nationals will see 14 top universities, with more than 250 rowers and up to 3,000 spectators in town for the competition. The western championships will see the top schools from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Both events should be a great boon for local hotels and restaurants. Bedford Channel should also attract other events as word spreads about the course.

Kwantlen First Nations, ParkLane Homes, members of the Fort Langley Canoe Club and the UFV rowing team were also on hand for Friday's announcement.
