Jackman surveyed for the railway and was a fishery guardian. In the Township of Langley, he homesteaded 160 acres with his wife Sara Ann Lovegrove, ran a store, and took up politics. The last survivor of the Royal Engineer's Columbia Detachment of 1858, Philip Jackman died in 1927 at the age of 92, and was survived by three of his six children.
Philip Jackman Park - the former Aldergrove Park (which has also commonly been referred to as "Parkside" due to its proximity to Parkside Centennial Elementary School) - features an outdoor pool, spray park, tennis courts, ball diamonds, and a new playground.
Township of Langley staff are currently working to implement these two Council decisions, including the changing of current park signage and the installation of interpretive signage specific to the new Philip Jackman Park.
An official unveiling of the new signage will be held at Philip Jackman Park in the fall, with details to be announced.
