A Shaky Plank

... continued

... At the same time, the Township, with Metro Parks, The Land Conservancy, and other partners, was negotiating to acquire the 163-acre, West Creek Wetlands. When that deal was done, for $2.5 million, or $15,337 per acre, the Township's share was only $700,000. Not bad for 163 acres of public land.

The Martini family paid $2 million for 93 acres, or $21,505 per acre. Based on the 70 acres retained, 30 heavily encumbered for research, the family paid $28,571 per acre. The 70 acres, assessed at $1.7 million, was reassessed, on appeal, to $1.1 million, based on those encumbrances.

Hardly the stuff of election scandal.
