Ball hockey, one of the fastest growing sports, has 900 players registered this season among 55 teams in various age groups.
The creation of the sports box allowed the opportunity for more kids to play this season then otherwise would have been possible, said David Short, vice-president of the VBHA.
"That is 100 more kids playing sport that otherwise would not have been able to," he said.
"These kids are being active. "(And) facilities like this help promote sports."
