Alberts noted that the steel-framed fabric membrane, which is more than 32 feet high at its centre, makes it possible for the box to be used all year round.
Rory Wakelin, president of the Valley Ball Hockey Association, said that the new facility means that more children have the chance to play.
"For the first time ever, Valley Ball Hockey has been able to form a Tykes division that introduces the sport to kids starting as young as five years old. It's been wildly successful and only possible because of the additional floor time the MAP sports box offers our organization."
The Langley Thunder Lacrosse can't be happier, either.
Noting the Langley Minor Lacrosse Association's objectives, which include teaching sportsmanship, emphasizing the importance of fair play and instilling mutual respect among players, coaches, officials and spectators, LMLA's Don MacDonald said: "Without the vision, investment and co-operation of the Township, extraordinary facilities such as the new McLeod Athletic Park's Sports Box, achieving these lofty objectives would indeed be difficult."
