To celebrate the province's sesquicentennial, ParkLane Homes sponsored a community event in B.C.'s original birthplace, Fort Langley.
Instead of candles to mark the anniversary of the proclamation of British Columbia as a Crown colony in 1858, ParkLane and participants planted 150 trees.
In addition to being a birthday celebration, the event raised $6,000 for the Langley School District Foundation.
For a voluntary donation, people could choose a tree and plant it in a Langley Township conservation area within ParkLane's Bedford Landing development.
Township Mayor Kurt Alberts planted the first tree with the help of a group of Lochiel U-Connect program students who had been able, thanks to Langley School District Foundation support, to travel to Japan to participate in an international robotics competition.
