City Waits for Aldergrove

Langley City council has decided to hold off until fall to see if it should consider paying for a Community Safety Officer to patrol the city's downtown core.

Council wants to see if the two Community Safety Officers hired to patrol Aldergrove is a success.

The CSOs were proposed for the City last year, but council wanted to observe the results from the new kind of policing.

Langley Township recently requested two more CSOs for Brookswood.

The City bus loop has been a hub of criminal activity over the years, most recently with two violent attacks by youth on adults. Some residents have called for more policing around the area and for the City to act.

In the City Policing Advisory Committee minutes, Mayor Peter Fassbender said he's working with TransLink to see if there can be any improvements there.

Already the City has improved lighting and put in new bus shelters but Fassbender would like to see if transit police could come to the Logan Avenue location. If not security then surveillance is another idea he has proposed.
