Mayor Kurt Alberts and Township Council were successful in making a special request for substantial provincial funding to assist in the construction of the Langley Events Centre. $15 million has been secured from the Province, an amount which is the largest ever received for any project from the Province in the history of the municipality. The $56 million Events Centre will be completed in early spring of 2009, however, the 500 seat banquet facility within the complex will be the venue for the 2008 Douglas Day Pioneer Banquet. The Township of Langley is the Birthplace of British Columbia and this year’s 150th provicial anniversary has special meaning here in Langley.
