In managing its growth, Langley Township strives to be a complete community and have a balance between population and job growth. Mayor Alberts supports economic development to increase the ratio of labour force to jobs. A higher ratio in this regard means there will be more opportunities for residents to work close to home. Working closer to home saves residents time and money and is better for the environment. A higher ratio of labour force to jobs also means a more favorable balance of non-residential to residential assessment taxation. The 1996 census showed that Langley Township had 1 job for 0.76 of a person in the labour force. The 2006 census proved we are well on target with 1 job for 0.93 of a person in the labour force. Mayor Alberts’s goal is one job for everyone in the labour force before the end of the next term of office.
