A new RCMP Superintendent came on board early in the Council’s current term. Council works together with Superintendent Armstrong to continually increase the strength of our policing resources. Fire and Police, make up about 30% of the entire municipal operating budget and that is a substantial resource commitment. We are seeing results. Vehicle thefts have declined, as a result of crime reduction strategies. Targeting prolific offenders and the bait car, and prevention strategies have all helped. The Meth Watch program has us working together in the fight against crystal meth. Our new Safety Inspection Team has interrupted over 200 grow ups to date (that’s 3 to 5 per week). The Team recovers their costs and buildings are being brought back to safety standards before occupancy is allowed. And we are trying new things … recently two community safety officers were added.
