The Township of Langley has seven fire halls and has been well served by a paid-call system over the years. During 2005 an extensive community consultation was conducted by the Fire Department on the future of the fire service. Public feedback unequivocally supported a gradual transition to include full time firefighters in some locations notwithstanding the added costs. The first shift of full time firefighters commenced in October of 2006 at the Willoughby Fire Hall (Hall 4). Mayor Alberts and a majority of Council voted in favour of the budget and tax increases to cover the additional costs of full time firefighters at the Willoughby Fire Hall and subsequently the Aldergrove Fire Hall (Hall 2). In October of 2007, Hall 2 went full time.
