Mayor Alberts was part of the Council when Langley Township applied and won its bid to host the 2010 BC Summer Games. On April 12, 2005 MLA Rich Coleman made the announcement that Langley Township would host the 2010 BC Summer Games. This major sporting event builds on many of Langley’s strengths as a community. The Township has a focus on fitness and sports for all. Investments have been made in providing sports fields and facilities to meet and encourage the growing trend toward increased participation in fitness and sports. Langley already has a huge volunteer base. The BC Summer Games will allow our community to showcase our venues, volunteer spirit, and our commitment to making fitness and sports an important part of the Langley lifestyle. It is expected that approximately 5000 volunteers will be needed to put on the games with the recruitment process commencing in early 2009.
