Mayor Alberts was in his first term when his Council formally initiated the Adopt-a-Street Program in May of 2000. The success of the program required the addition of a program coordinator in 2002 and by the end of that year 75 groups and individuals had adopted 100 kilometres of Township roads. The program was also expanded to include trails, parks, creeks and storm drain marking. Participants in the program include a wide variety of community groups representing youth, churches, schools, families, businesses and people that care about our environment. As of May of 2007 the program had grown to 220 adoptions of streets, parks, trails and creeks with almost 5000 volunteers. A great example of community participation through volunteerism and building a better community through partnerships!
